Editing and proofreading

This covers two different situations: work that's already written and just needs a careful pass before submission, and work that's come back from a supervisor with corrections that need to be addressed properly, not just patched.

Questions students ask

What's the difference between editing and proofreading here?
Proofreading is the final pass: catching errors, checking formatting, making sure references match your citation style. Editing goes further, restructuring weak sections or rewriting parts your supervisor didn't accept. Most students need one or the other, not always both.
My supervisor gave me a long list of corrections. Can you go through all of them?
Yes. Send the marked-up document or the correction list as your supervisor gave it, and each point gets addressed directly rather than a general rewrite that might miss what was actually flagged.
Will this change my own writing style?
The goal is to fix what's actually wrong: grammar, structure, formatting, without rewriting your voice into something unrecognizable. If a section needs a full rewrite because it doesn't work, that gets flagged rather than silently replaced.
How long does a proofreading pass take?
It depends on the length of the document and how many corrections there are. Share your deadline on WhatsApp and you'll get a realistic timeline before anything starts.
