Defense preparation

Most defense anxiety comes from one thing: not being sure what you'll be asked. This is a walkthrough of your actual project, your methodology, your findings, the choices you made, so you're answering from understanding, not guessing what the panel wants to hear.

Common questions

Questions students ask

I didn't write my project myself. Can you still help me defend it?
Yes, though it takes a bit longer since the walkthrough has to cover ground you're less familiar with. The goal either way is the same: you leave able to explain your own work, not reciting memorized answers.
What kind of questions actually come up in a defense?
It depends heavily on your topic and methodology, but panels tend to focus on why you made the choices you did: why that methodology, why that sample size, what your results actually mean, and what the limitations of your study are.
How far in advance should I book this?
As early as possible, ideally a few days before your defense date so there's time to actually absorb the material rather than cram it the night before. That said, last-minute requests are handled too. Tell us your date and we'll work with what's left.
Do you help with the presentation slides too?
Yes, if you need them. Slides get built around the same walkthrough, so what's on the slide matches what you can actually explain when asked.
